Andy Stern, the outgoing head of the labor powerhouse SEIU, is mulling ways of remaining in an advisory position at the union in order to smooth the transition, and also trying to work out the right timetable for stepping down, an SEIU official tells me.

Last night, Ben Smith reported on an email from an SEIU official saying that Stern would be resigning, and since then, speculation has been on full boil throughout the labor world about what this will mean for the union, which Stern built up into a major political player during his tenure.
